Title: Sunflowers 2024

What: A beautiful fine art print made from egg whites and silver and other stuff.

Technique: It’s an albumen print, toned with gold toner. It is a contact copy from a wet plate collodion negative. Mated in double mat of archival quality.

Size: Format of the image is 125x175mm or 5×7″, the whole piece with mating is 20x30cm or 8×12″.

Description

The image Sunflowers 2024 was a still life study and the demonstration of the beauty and technical perfection of 19th Century photography processes. This print was done in the precise way as it was done in 1855.The negative was made with an old bellow large format camera, format 5×7″ and then contact copied to an albumen print.  The paper is Fabriano F5, archival quality, coated four times with pure albumen. Then it is sensitised with 20% of silvenitrate and during development, before fixing it was toned with gold toner. Gold toner gives this darker chocolate blacks and brighter whites, plus replaces the first layer of silver with gold, which contributes to the archival quality of the print.
