Moje ime je Borut Peterlin and I’ve devoted my life to photography. I’ve graduated at Prague’s FAMU Academy with a BA in photography (1994-98) and earned a Postgraduate Diploma at The London College of Printing (2002-03). In 2000 I received a scholarship at Fabrica, Benetton’s Research Center for Communication and began working with Oliviero Toscani. In recent years I’m visiting workshops at George Eastman House where under mentorship of Mark Osterman I’m learning the 19th Century photography techniques, with the emphasis on wet plate collodion. I love the term ‘Antiquarian Avant- Guard’ art movement.

I’ve exhibited worldwide, in venues such as the Konica-Minolta Gallery, Tokio, Japan / K2 Gallery – Izmir,Turkey / Martin-Gropius-Bau, Berlin, Germany/ Host Gallery, London, UK / Kaunas Photo Festival, Lithuania / Doland Museum, Shanghai, China / Photo Fringe Festival, Krakow, Poland, Arendt & Medernach, Luxembourg,  the Museum of Contemporary Art, Ljubljana, Slovenia and many others.

My education is a blessing and a curse. On one hand I’ve learned so much, I’ve studied together with – for example – Olivia Arthur (Magnum Photos) and James Mollison and on other hand I’m based in Slovenia, far from metropolis of photography. Nevertheless I’ve decided I will not move away, since this is the perfect place to raise my children, so instead of moving out I’ve decided that if Mohammed will not go to the mountain, the mountain must come to Mohammed, so in 2001 I’ve started a festival of photography Fotopub, so artists like Martin Parr, Vanessa Winship, Klavdij Sluban, Stephen Gill, Evgen Bavčar, George Georgiou, Pep Bonet and many others had workshops, talks and exhibitions, here in Slovenia. I was running the show for seven years.

The last week of July 2016 I’ll start an event that will grow into new festival again. A festival of analogue photography. Stay tuned and check the TopshitPhotography.com site! Last, but not least, don’t forget… topshit happens!
